Jose Pereztroika

Jose Pereztroika aka Perezcope is a Swiss-Spanish horological forensics expert and author known for policing the watch collectors market and exposing auction houses and vintage watch dealers who try to sell counterfeits or watches that were pieced together from loose parts (so-called Franken watches).[1] Jose Pereztroika is an internationally acclaimed watch expert and influencer.[2][3][4]

Education and early life

Jose Pereztroika was born in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. Pereztroika grew up in an international environment and speaks five languages fluently. He studied interior design and industrial design at FHNW in Basel.[5][6]

Career

After graduating, Pereztroika branched into Graphic Design and became an Art Director for Swiss advertising agencies like DDB and BBDO. In 2014, Pereztroika took a sabbatical leave to focus on autodidactic studies in horology. He left Switzerland and moved to Ko Samui, an island off the east coast of Thailand where he built a series of advanced databases for Rolex and Panerai watches.[7][8] With the acquired knowledge, Pereztroika was able to uncover an entire counterfeiting network that had produced high-end fakes for decades.[9][10] Pereztroika developed the ability to spot tiniest irregularities and provide hard evidence to prove that certain watches were manipulated to fetch higher prices at auction.[11] Jake Ehrlich III from Rolexmagazine and Ariel Adams from aBlogtoWatch were among the first to appreciate Pereztroika's work.[12] Pereztroika is well-known in the world of watches and was endorsed by established experts like John Goldberger and Edmond Saran.[5] Reputable auction houses work with Jose Pereztroika to make sure the watches offered at auction are legit.[13][14][15][16]

Just recently, Pereztroika uncovered that many of the watches shown on Panerai's official Instagram account are Chinese-made counterfeits.[17]

Personal life

Jose Pereztroika has been collecting watches and cars since his late twenties. At the end of his 12-month sabbatical leave and amazed by his new impressions and experiences, Pereztroika decided to turn Southeast Asia into his base. At the moment, Pereztroika lives in Malaysia.[5][6][11]
