John Fetzer (politician)
John Fetzer (1840–1900) was an American politician. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing Wisconsin's 1st Senate District. Previously, he held a position in the State Assembly. He was a member of the Democratic Party.[2]

Fetzer was born on July 8, 1840 Grand Duchy of Hessen as the son of Peter Fetzer and Margaret Pitz. The family emigrated to Manitowoc, Wisconsin in 1850, with five farmhands, and started a 40-acre farm with 75 cows.[1]
In September 1861, Fetzer enlisted in Company B, of the 9th Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry Regiment. He served until December 1864 in the Civil War. He was engaged in all of the battles in which his regiment participated, and was wounded at the Battle of Saline Bottoms on April 30, 1864.[2]
In 1866, he married Anna Fetzer (also from Hessen and daughter of Frank Fetzer and Eliza Fifer)[1] and moved to Forestville in 1877.[2] There he established a sawmill in 1872 and a large flour mill on the Wolf River in 1877.[1]
Fetzer was the chairman of the Forrestville town board for many years, before becoming a member of the State Assembly in 1884, and of the State Senate in 1890.[1][2]
