As a failed contestant of Univision’s La Banda in Season 1 (featuring judges Laura Pausini, Ricky Martin and Alejandro Sanz) and Diego Rivadeneira and Teddy Rivadeneira.[2]

In August 2016, he released his first independent single and music video, "Pretty Girl (Tu Canción)".[3] A bilingual single, with a combined upbeat latin pop rhythm and Reggaeton. In 2016, he also released his single "Tíralo". In 2017, he released another single "Vuelo a París", a large part of which he composed about an ex, à la Taylor Swift.

Then in 2017 he released "Ojo por ojo" on his birthday. In 2019 he followed up with "Ahogando" which was composed, directed and produced by Vera himself. The video was made in Ecuador which was recorded among friends and family in the middle of the Ecuadorian Pacific. It has the participation of model Nathaly Quiñonez and actress, Michela Pincay.[4]

Johann Vera openly rejects working with strict record labels and currently struggles as an independent artist.
