Jean-Yves Couliou
Biography
Couliou was born in Landerneau, Finistère, France, and spent his youth in the neighbourhood of Pont-Aven, the village of his parents. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts of Rennes, Académies et Écoles Nationales Supérieures des Arts Décoratifs, des Arts Appliqués and the Beaux-Arts de Paris. He was encouraged by the painters Brianchon, Dupas, Legueult, Roland Oudot, and Roger Bissière. He died in Lorient.
Style
Beginning in Naïve art, he later developed to a style of poetic realism, with periods of expressionism, Abstract art and lyrical and geometrical abstracticism.
