Background
Jason Zachary was born on June 29, 1977.[1] He obtained an associate degree from Pellissippi State Community College, attended the University of Tennessee.[1] Zachary is married to Holly, and together they have one child.
Zachary has been the Vice President of Agent Sales at Americomm since 1999,[2] and is also on the Board of Directors for International Sports Consulting.[1]
Zachary is Christian. He became a partner of the Center for Christian Statesmanship on Capitol Hill in 2014.[2] He is also a member on the board of Western Heights Baptist Center, and a member at First Baptist Concord.[2]
Political career
Zachary was first elected to the Tennessee State House of Representatives on August 12, 2015.[2] He is a House member of the 109th through 111th General Assemblies.[1]
Controversies
Zachary is an opponent of LGBTQ rights,[3] specifically sponsoring HB 563 which would protect businesses that discriminate against LGBTQ people.[4]
He has supported defunding public education in favor of private schools.[5]
In September 2020, Zachary and Knoxville Mayor Glenn Jacobs created a video describing the Knoxville Board of Health as part of the "sinister forces within" the United States attacking American values. Board members watching the video felt "threatened," "disturbed," and "disheartened".[6]
