Ion Buzea
Ion Buzea (born 14 August 1934) is a Romanian tenor who enjoyed a successful international career. Widely considered one of the best and most important tenors. His voice was tremendously powerful.
Born in Cluj, Romania, where he studied geology and mining and played in the National Romanian Volleyball team while pursuing vocal training with Lya Popp. He made his stage debut in Cluj as Alfredo in La traviata in 1958. After winning first prize in the George Enescu International Singing Competition he became a member of the Romanian National Opera, Bucharest. After further studies with Luigi Ricci in Rome, he began his international career with notable appearances in Milan, Vienna, Salzburg, New York City and Cincinnati.[1]
Ion Buzea also made numerous recordings, notably Rigoletto, opposite Nicolae Herlea and Magda Ianculescu, and La traviata, opposite Virginia Zeani and again Nicolae Herlea, as well as numerous television appearances.
