She graduated in Administration at Fundação Getúlio Vargas and dedicated herself to studying psychological profiles of criminals,[1] especially serial killers. Ilana Casoy[2]has already published several books about crimes that became famous in Brazil, such as The Proof is the Witness, an unprecedented account of the Nardoni's case, and The Fifth Commandment – Police Case, about the murder of the Richthofen couple. She collaborated with the Investigation Discovery channel website between 2012 and 2013. Currently, she subscribes to a column in the Brasileiros Magazine.

The writer is also dedicated to fiction. The crime specialist – who already did an internship in the scientific police, when she followed up the homicide investigation – participated, at the invitation of Fox Brasil, in the creation of a profile of the psychopath Dexter Morgan, anti-hero and protagonist of the series that takes her name and which has become one of the most revered in recent years. Ilana Casoy was a collaborator on the series written by Gloria Perez and directed by Mauro Mendonça Filho, Dupla Identidade, shown in September 2014 on Rede Globo. Bruno Gagliasso plays a serial killer inspired by Ted Bundy, whose profile is dissected in Serial Killers: Crazy or Cruel? The series also features Luana Piovani as a police officer and forensic psychologist, specializing in hunting serial killers.[3]

In 2014, she made special appearances in the "Domingo Legal (SBT)" show, evaluating the participants in the series "Os Paranormais".
