Henry Bailey Alden

Henry Bailey Alden (June 24, 1862 – August 20, 1939) was an American architect.

Career

Among Alden's notable works are the 1904 Endicott Estate, the 1914 Chatham Bars Inn in Chatham, Massachusetts, and the 1928 United Shoe Machinery Corporation Building at 138-164 Federal Street in Boston, among others.[1] He also designed the gardener's cottage on the Enditcott Estate[2] and the Gate Lodge Chapel at Brookdale Cemetery,[3] both in Dedham, Massachusetts. Alden also was the architect for several home remodelings in the Back Bay of Boston.[1] For a time, he worked in the City of Boston's Architect's Office.[4]

He had offices at various times at 6 Beacon St.[1] and 23 Court St.[2] in Boston, Massachusetts. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects.[5]

Personal life

Alden was born June 24, 1862, in Somerville, Massachusetts to Henry C. and Emma F. (née Bailey) Alden.[1] He died, unmarried, on August 20, 1939.[1] His ashes are interred in Brookdale Cemetery.[6]

He attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.[7]
