Hamad bin Khalifa Al Nahyan

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Nahyan (Arabic: حمد بن خليفة آل نهيان) is a United Arab Emirates businessman, and a member of the Ruling Royal Family in the Abu Dhabi and a Chairman of HBK Department of Projects.[1] He is a very vocal supporter of the normalization agreement with Israel,[2][3] and is known for owning 50% of the Israeli Beitar Jerusalem F.C.[4]

Biography

His father is Sheikh Khalifa bin Muhammad bin Khalifa al-Nahyan,[1] a distant relative of the president of the United Arab Emirates, Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a descendant of an Arab Sunni-Muslim dynasty, House of Nahyan, which is also the royal family that rules Abu Dhabi.[5][6][1] His mother is Mouza al-Otaiba, whom his father divorced and he used to use the name Adil al-Otaiba.[7] In April 2019, he received an official permission to change his name to Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa al-Nahyan.[1]

1993, he received a master's degree in Business and International Relations from the University of California, Irvine.[8] According to his website he has made his fortune in the digital currency business.[9][6] He is married and has four children, three sons and a daughter.[6]

His vision is "global cooperation through an international parliament." He supports health projects, and is a partner in humanitarian projects, with an emphasis on energy and education projects, and donates to charity as well.[10]

bin Khalifa never held a senior political role in UAE, and his business is mostly based in Dubai.[11]

Relationship with the Jewish Community

For first Simchat Torah Holiday after the normalization Sheikh has invited famous Israeli Mizrahi music star Omer Adam to visit and celebrate it with the Jewish Community in Dubai.[12][13]

HBKiCare

The first product to be jointly marketed by UAE and Israel based companies was announced by Sheikhs company, HBK Department of Projects, in partnership with Israeli based, Sure Universal.[14][15][3]

Beitar Jerusalem F.C.

In November 2020 it was reported that Sheikh is in talks to purchase Israeli football club football club Beitar Jerusalem, the deal is being negotiated by Jewish Emirati businessman Naum Koen of the NY Koen Group,[16][17][18] the deal was closed on December 7, 2020. The deal includes commitment to invest 300 million shekels into the club over the next 10 years, for 50% of the club's stakes.[4][19][20]

Controversies

Beitar Jerusalem F.C.

it was reported in the beginning of January 2021, that the Israel Football Association ordered investigation of Al Nahyan's financial assets. The investigation found out that Al Nahyan owns inactive firms without much liquidity. Also, the investigators reported that out of Al Nahyan’s declared wealth of almost 1.6 billion dollars, 1.5 billion dollars are non-tradable government bonds of Venezuelan, which is illiquid, and carry a much discounted value.[21]
