Gummanur Jayaram

Gummanur Jayaram (born 16 October 1968) is an Indian politician from YSR Party and current Minister of Labour, Employment, Training, Factories in the Government of Andhra Pradesh.[1][2][3] He was elected as a Member of the AP Legislative Assembly (India) (MLA) representing Alur (Assembly constituency) in both the 2014 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly election and 2019 Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections.

Personal life

Gummanur Jayaram was born on 16 October 1968 in Gummanur village, Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh in a farmers family to Gummanur Basappa and Gummanur Saradha Amma (served as Village Sarpanch) with two brothers and one sister. He completed his early schooling in Gummanur till 5th grade and thereafter in Bellary. After completing his education, returned to his village to continue farming alongside his father. He married Gummanur Renuka on 7 July 1989, with whom he has three daughters Manju, Vandhana, Vidya and son Eshwar Gummnur.

Political career

Jayaram started his political career as TDP party worker under NTR's regime in Andhra Pradesh. He contested and lost as Zilla Parishad territorial constituency (ZPTC) in 2001, later winning in 2006. Later, he joined Praja Rajyam Party under Chiranjeevi and contested as MLA in 2009 but lost. As PRP joined Congress party, Jayaram decided to join YSRCP in 2011 under Y.S.Jaganmohan Reddy.

2014 election

In 2014 election, Jayaram contested as the YSRCP candidate for MLA in Alur against Veerabadra Gowda from TDP. He won the MLA elections with a margin of 1919 votes.[4]

2019 election

In 2019 election, Jayaram contested again as MLA representing YSRCP from Alur against Kotla Sujathamma from TDP. He won with total votes of 107,101 with 161 Postal and 106940 General representing 56%.[5] With a statewide majority by the YSRCP, they formed the state government headed by Jagan Mohan Reddy as CM, and Jayaram was chosen as Minister of Labour, Employment, Training, Factories in Jagan's cabinet.

Development projects

Jayaram led a project to bringing water channels to his constituency. He also addressed the problem in labour department ,[6] and worked with the Central Government to deliver the upcoming hospital where MoS Santosh Kumar Gangwar laid the foundation stone of the ESI Hospital in Kakinada, Andhra Pradesh.[7]
