History
Great Lakes was founded in 2010 by Dr. Bala V. Balachandran, JL Kellogg Distinguished Professor of Accounting and Information Management at Kellogg School of Management, Northwestern University, USA. Unlike its Chennai campus, Great Lakes, Gurgaon, started its operations with the two-year Post Graduate Program in Energy Management.
Following the graduation of the first batch of its two-year program, the institute started offering its flagship one-year PGPM program for experienced professionals in 2012. Both the Chennai & Gurgaon campuses of the Institute follow a model similar to Indian School of Business (ISB), involving a flagship one-year MBA program, international academic collaborations and global visiting faculty.
After initially conducting classes and operations out of a rented property in the suburbs of the city, Great Lakes developed a 7.2-acre residential campus in the outskirts of Gurgaon which became operational in 2016. AICTE approval for both its full-time MBA programs followed shortly after. Following which, the two-year post graduate programme in energy management got converted into Post Graduate Diploma in Management (PGDM).
