Sharman was born in May 1938 at St Pancras. He was educated at Lancing College, where he was coached in cricket by Kenneth Shearwood.[1] From Lancing, he went up to Brasenose College, Oxford.[2] While studying at Oxford, he made two appearances in first-class cricket for Oxford University in 1958, against Yorkshire and Derbyshire at Oxford.[3] He also played squash while at Oxford, gaining a blue. He later emigrated to the United States, where he played squash competitively. Alongside his squash partner Don Mills, he was ranked number one in squash doubles in the United States in the over–75 division in 2016.[4]
