Engelbert was born in Milan, and studied at the Brera Fine Arts Academy, where her mother is teaching sculpture and an artist. She has four siblings.[1] She began modelling for Dolce and Gabbana when she was in her late teens, but left catwalk modelling to pursue a career in styling. She worked as a stylist for fashion magazine Pig and was later taken on by Anna Dello Russo, who was working as Vogue's fashion editor at the time.[1] Engelbert worked under famed editor Franca Sozzani at Italian Vogue [2] before the two worked together running Vogue Gioiello and Vogue Pelle [3]

As a stylist, Engelbert has collaborated on editorials with photographers such as Peter Lindberg, Patrick Demarchelier, Paolo Roversi and Mario Sorrenti [4] Engelbert has also worked as a stylist with numerous global fashion brands including Carolina Herrera, Michael Kors and Dolce & Gabbana [5]

In 2011 Engelbert moved to New York to work for fashion magazine W; she gained a following as a street style icon after she was photographed for Scott Schuman's new blog The Sartorialist.[1] As a Creative Director, Engelbert has worked on immersive theatre production Queen of the Night at The Diamond Horseshoe[6] as well as a series of campaign videos for Tory Burch [7]

In 2017 Engelbert's book, Gio_graphy: Fun in The Wild World of Fashion (ISBN 978-0847858392) was published by Rizzoli New York.[8][9][10]

Engelbert was named Creative Director for Swarovski Professional, the brands B2B division, in 2017 [11] and in this role she has launched the Swarovski Book of Dreams Vol I (in Sept 2018)[12] and Volume II (Feb 2019).[13] In 2020 her role was expanded and she was named Global Creative Director of Swarovski Group, covering all creative aspects of Swarovski as a whole and also making her the first ever company-wide Creative Director for the Swarovski brand.[14]

In 2016 she married Oscar Engelbert, a property developer, in Capri.[1][15] They live in Stockholm and have a daughter together, Talitha Italia Engelbert.[16][17] Her sister is designer Sara Battaglia.
