Gianfranco Menegali

Gianfranco Menegali (17 June 1933 Rome, Italy - 1 November 2016 Trevignano Romano, Italy) was an Italian international football referee.[1]

Career

He officiated 6 international matches and was FIFA referee in 1974–1984. He attributed 2 matches in 1978 (CAF), a match in 1982 World Cup qualifying (AFC/OFC), a match in 1980 and a match in 1984 European Championship qualifying[2] and others were in friendly matches. He also officiated 5 matches in FIFA u20 World Cup in 1977 (3) and 1981 (2). He appointed two penalty kickes in 1984 European Championship qualifying match between Albania-Germany (1:2) against one each team and all of them converted which by German Karl-Heinz Rummenigge in 66th minute and by Albanian Muhedin Targaj in 81st minute.[3]

In club football he officiated some UEFA competition matches such as Champions League (5), Cup Winners Cup (5) and UEFA Cup (9). Menegali was referee of European Cup Winners' Cup Final match between Aberdeen and Real Madrid that Aberdeen won by 2:1. He also attributed 141 Serie A matches and 108 Serie B matches around 1970–1983.[4]
