George H. Burgess

George H. Burgess (born December 25, 1949) is an ichthyologist[2] and fisheries biologist with the Florida Museum of Natural History, University of Florida. He is the former[1] director of the International Shark Attack File and author/coauthor of numerous books and papers on sharks and other fish.

George Burgess also appeared on Discovery Channel's Top Ten Sharks of All Time.

George Burgess retired in 2017; the Florida Museum of Natural History said the following: "Throughout his more than 40-year career at the University of Florida, George Burgess gained an international reputation with the media and public as a reliable source and shark attack expert who always stressed the importance of shark conservation. And while he officially retired in 2017, Burgess is crystal clear on one point: He’s not done working and plans to stay engaged."[1]
