History
Fidelis Care was formed in 1993 as the NYC Catholic Health Plan Inc.[2] by the Catholic Medical Center of Brooklyn and Queens, Inc. and the Diocese of Brooklyn to serve the poor and medically underserved.[6] It initially operated in Brooklyn, but expanded to include Queens and The Bronx in 1994. From 1994 to 1996, the bishops of the Catholic Dioceses, work to expand Fidelis Care's license statewide.[2][6]
In 1997, Fidelis expanded to Western New York with the acquisition of Better Health Plan, a Buffalo-based HMO.[7]
Fidelis Care operates several government-sponsored health insurance programs, including Medicare, Medicaid and Child Health Plus, which was introduced in 1997.[5][7][8] The company also offers managed long-term care plans[9] and Qualified Health Plans on the NY State of Health Marketplace.[10][11][12]
In May 2004, Fidelis Care began Fidelis Medicare Advantage and Dual Advantage to serve the members.[13] After becoming a subsidiary of Fidelis Care in 2005, CenterCare, a New York City-based Medicaid managed care plan, was formally acquired by Fidelis Care in 2008.[14] In 2009, Fidelis Care launched Fidelis Medicaid Advantage Plus (HMO), a managed long term care product for individuals 18 years of age or older who have a chronic illness or disability.
In 2013, Fidelis Care was approved to be a Qualified Health Plan, offering products through NY State of Health.[15]
On June 23, 2017, Fidelis Care introduced its Every Child Covered campaign, which raised awareness for children without health insurance.

On September 12, 2017, it was announced that Centene Corp. would acquire Fidelis Care for US$3.75 billion.[16][17] Centene completed the acquisition of Fidelis Care on July 2, 2018.[18]
