The football club was founded оn the basis of Khelvachauri Sport School in 2011. First head coach Amiran Gogitidze led the club to Meore Liga, which they won with an automatic promotion.[1]
For most of the next season Machakhela were engaged in inter-Adjarian rivalry with Dinamo Batumi for a second promotion place to Umaglesi Liga, in which eventually the latter prevailed. Overall, the 3rd place taken 2014 in Liga 2 has been the club's highest ever point reached in Georgian leagues.[2]
Machakhela concluded the 2014/15 season comfortably in mid-table, but a year later lost a relegation battle. 2018 turned out another unsuccessful season with the club getting relegated from a bottom place in Liga 3.[3]
Last two seasons Machakhela have been taking part in Regionuli Liga tournament.
