Edward McHugh (artist)

Edward McHugh is an artist from Philadelphia[1] whose work includes photography and sculpture.[2]

Education and work

Trained as a painter, printmaker, and sculptor, McHugh graduated from the Hussian School of Art in Philadelphia in 1991. He later studied at Crown Point Press in San Francisco.

After beginning to work in photographic methods, McHugh began to implement a process he termed a "wax-diffused pigment print." By applying a thin layer of archival wax to the surface of the print, McHugh imbues a painterly brushstroke to the image giving it a uniquely handmade surface, marrying his fine arts background and his photographic process.[3] The Seattle Times described an image of the battleship USS New Jersey treated with this technique, saying that "the effect is both enchanting and unsettling".[4]
