Dmitry Smolyakov

Dmitry Smolyakov (born August 5, 1982) is a Russian mixed martial arts fighter currently competing in the Heavyweight division. A professional since 2013, he has competed for the UFC and Fight Nights Global.

Mixed martial arts career

Early career

Smolyakov had an amateur Middleweight fight for Strelka Fight League in the summer of 2011, winning via headbutt. Smolyakov later made his professional MMA debut in February 2013 in his native Russia. Over the next nearly three years, he amassed an undefeated record of 8–0, with all of his wins coming before the final bell.

Ultimate Fighting Championship

In 2016, Smolyakov signed with the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He made his debut against Luis Henrique at UFC on Fox: Holm vs. Shevchenko on July 13, 2016. He lost the fight via a rear-naked choke submission in the second round.[2]

In his second fight for the promotion, Smolyakov faced Cyril Asker at UFC Fight Night: Rodríguez vs. Penn on January 15, 2017. He lost the fight via TKO in the first round.[3]

Return to UFC

After two years away from the company, Smolyakov returned to face Greg Hardy on April 27, 2019 at UFC Fight Night: Jacaré vs. Hermansson.[4] He lost the fight via TKO in the first round.[5]

On May 28, 2019, it was reported that Smolyakov was released by UFC.[6]

Smolyakov received a two-year USADA ban after testing positive for recombinant human erythropoietin (rHuEPO) and intact human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) on out-of-competition test on April 22, and the second an in-competition test on April 27, 2019. The ban retroactive to April 22, 2019 and subsequently he was released from UFC.[7]
