Derby (repair shops)

Derby (formerly known as Milo Junction) is the name of railroad repair facilities in Milo, Maine. In 1905, it was described by the Bangor Daily Commercial as being the second-largest repair shops in New England, as built by the Bangor & Aroostook Railroad.[1] The company settlement of Derby included not only machine shops and houses, but also a hotel. Further, the BAR was to control all business on the 80 acres it owned. Milo Junction is the center of activity in Piscataquis County. Over 400 machinists, carpenters, painters, masons and common laborers are employed from early morning till late at night in an effort to get the work completed at as early date as possible.[2]
