David O'Brien (racehorse trainer)

David O'Brien is a former Irish racehorse trainer. He was the son of the successful trainer Vincent O'Brien.

His primary successes included Assert, who won the 1982 Irish and French Derbies, and Secreto, who won the 1984 Derby, defeating El Gran Senor trained by his father Vincent.[1] David O'Brien remains the youngest trainer to win the Derby, Irish Derby or French Derby.[2]

He retired from training in the late 1980s and moved to France where he purchased a vineyard, Chateau Vignelaure.[3][4] In 2009, O'Brien moved with his family to Perth in Australia, where they were residing as of early 2020.[5]
