In 2011, ChromaDex licensed patents from Dartmouth College, Cornell University, and Washington University regarding nicotinamide riboside, which it markets and sells as an ingredient under the brand name Niagen and sells directly to consumers as Tru Niagen.[1] ChromaDex licensed patents from the University of Mississippi and the USDA to commercially develop pterostilbene and sell the compound under the brand name pTeroPure.[2] ChromaDex no longer sells pTeroPure.[3]

Elysium Health bought the ingredients in its "Basis" product from ChromaDex.[4] The two firms had an agreement under which Elysium didn't have to acknowledge ChromaDex as the source of the ingredients, but then after Elysium recruited the VP of business development from ChromaDex and stopped paying ChromaDex, ChromaDex sued Elysium and the information became public.[5]
