The eye is red. Legs and feet are reddish. The similar and sympatric buff-fronted quail-dove is distinguished by its greyish breast, green nape patch and buffy forehead.

Habits

The Chiriquí quail-dove inhabits mid-elevation forests of Costa Rica and western Panama. Like most quail-doves, it is a shy bird and is more often heard than seen.[4]

The call is a loud whoooo-ooooh.[3]
