Cambarus veteranus
Cambarus veteranus, the Guyandotte River Crayfish, is a species of crayfish in the family Cambaridae. It is found in North America.[1][2][3]

Description
C. veteranus has chestnut to greenish brown coloration on the dorsal and lateral body surfaces and cream color on the ventral surface. The base of the pincers and bottom of the claw are red.[4]
Habitat
C. veteranus is found on the Allegheny Plateau at an elevation greater that 457 metres (1,499 ft) in fast flowing pools of streams with a width between 10–20 metres (33–66 ft). It is found in three river drainages of the region: the Bluestone and Guyandotte in West Virginia; the Big Sandy in Kentucky and Virginia; and the Russell Fork in Virginia. It prefers large flat rocks on gravel and sand to allow for refuge and burrowing.[4]
Status
Habitat degradation due to mining, logging, and habitat alteration have reduced the available habitat for C. veteranus. High velocity water flow from flooding in 2001 also altered the habitat. Invasive species that can thrive in the altered habitat also put pressure on it. Some of the crayfish species that have been found in former C. veteranus habitats include C. sciotensis and C. robustus.[4]
