Beyyurdu is a village in Şemdinli in the Hakkari Province in Turkey.[1]

History

The village contains people belonging to the Herki tribe who are of Kurdish origin. The village, named "Bé-Dīwé", "Bêdaiwê" and "Bedevi" in history, was the settlement of Assyrian people within the Nochiya tribe in the early 20th century, before they were displaced by Ottoman Turks in 1914 and onward. The Beyyurdu Dam is a gravity dam currently under construction on the Bembo River (an eventual tributary of the Great Zab).[2]

Culture

The village has two Syriac churches dedicated to St. John the Baptist and St. Cyriacus dating from the 5th-6th centuries.

Economy

Because it's in a rural area, the economy of the village is based on agriculture and animal husbandry.

Infrastructure

There is a primary school in the village and a sewer network. There is no PTT branch and agency. The village also lacks a health center and health home. The route that provides transport is made of asphalt. There is electricity and fixed telephone in the village. There are village mosques and lodgings and there is a water network in the village.
