Baddoki Gosaian

Baddoki Saikhwan is a village located in Tehsil Nowshera Virkan District Gujranwala, Punjab. The village has remnants of the Sikh Empire.

History

Baddoki Saikhwan is one of the most historically significant villages of the Gujranwala District. It is often locally referred to as Badoki. It was a home to Sikhs and Muslims before the Partition of India. In 1947, several Sikh families migrated from Baddoki Saikhwan to India and similarly from India several Muslim families migrated to the village. Migrant families still use the homes and lands of those who emigrated from the village.

The village is spread out in the shape of a triangle. The village is slightly smaller than the nearby villages of Udhowali and Hamboki.

Demographics

There are approximately 4000 residents of Baddoki Saikhwan. Several buildings remain that were built in the 18th century. The village is inhabited by hundreds of Muslims and Christians, and although the majority of residents are Muslims, both groups share the same social and cultural status, with independent practice of belief. The name Baddoki Saikhwan is derived from the name of Baddo.

A small non-permanent canal flows on the south side of the village.

All the streets of the village are paved. There is electricity as well as gas facility. The village has a primary school for boys and a high school for girls.

There are five mosques in the village, one of which is under construction.

Agriculture is the main occupation of most of the people of the village and many people work hard for their livelihood.

Most of the paddy and wheat crops are grown in the village. Watermelons and vegetables have also been growing for the past few years. The village has four guava orchards. There is also a church in the village where Christians worship. There are many historical buildings and old houses of Sikh Empire.
