Are (surname)

Are (Chinese: 阿熱; pinyin: Ārè) is a historical surname from the Western Regions (Xiyu) as described in Chinese history. The Biographies of the Huigu from the Old Book of Tang stated:

The Xiajiasi are what were in ancient times the Kingdom of Jiankun [(堅昆)]. They claimed to be descendants of Li Ling. As their ruler was known as Are, they took the surname of Are.

There are some families with this surname in the state of Andhra Pradesh located in south east region of India.
