History

The Behavioral Healthcare Corporation was founded in 1993 by Charles A. Elcan.[1][2] It was a subsidiary of Kindred Healthcare.[1] It operates hospitals in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Amarillo, Texas, and, as of March 1, 2018, in Tyler, Texas.

By 2001, the private equity firm Welsh, Carson, Anderson & Stowe became majority shareholders.[3]

The company sold its psychiatric hospitals in 2005.[2] Additionally, it changed its name to Ardent Health Services.[2]

In 2015, Ventas acquired its real estate investments while Equity Group Investments acquired its hospitals, for US$1.75 billion.[4]

In February 2020, Ardent Health Services president and CEO David T. Vandewater announced his plans of retirement from the company. He will remain as president and CEO until a successor is named.[5]

In August 2020, Ardent Health Services appointed Martin J. Bonick as president and CEO.[6]
