Ali Mech
Ali Mech (Bodo: अली मेच, Persian: علی میچ, romanized: `Alī Mech) was a tribal chief in the early 13th century CE, in the region of present-day Assam, India.[1] Belonging to a Mech tribe of the Kacharis,[2] he is thought to have been the first Muslim convert in Assam.[3] He converted to Islam in 1205 AD. He is considered as the founding father of the Deshi Muslim people of Assam.[4]

As a tribal chief in the foothills of Kamarupa,[5] he aided Bakhtiyar Khilji in his failed invasion of Tibet in 1206 by acting as a guide.[6]
