Akhtar Aly Kureshy
Akhtar Aly Kureshy (Urdu: اختر علی قریشی) born in Lahore 15 November 1963, is a Pakistani lawyer & advisor and Senior Advocate of Supreme Court of Pakistan.[1] who served as Asst. Attorney-General for Pakistan[2][3] He remained Assistant Advocate General Punjab [4][5] and Legal Advisor to Provincial Assembly of the Punjab.[6]

He is a life member of Supreme Court Bar Association of Pakistan. He remain associated with Civil Service Academy as Syndicate Advisor to teach & train the government officers of Central Superior Services (CSS).He expresses his views through lectures and columns, published daily The News International,[2] Pakistan Today[7][8] etc.[9]
Early life and education
He was born in a business family, grew up in Lahore, his father and elder brothers are successful business person. Kureshy was a social worker in his student time and remained joint secretary and then General Secretary of Social Welfare Society of Lahore. He graduated from University of the Punjab 1986. He earned law degree LL.B. from Punjab Law College 1990 to become a lawyer as he was first in his family to choose and enter in the legal profession as an advocate to create a new milestone for others to follow, now his younger daughter Aman Anus followed him to wear the ropes of a lawyer. He did Master in political science from University of the Punjab 1992 and diplomas in labor law and Intellectual properties laws. He was member of American Center (Library) Lahore where completed American History Course in 1992 from American Center, American Embassy Islamabad.[10][9]
Professional background
He joined the Law Chamber of Barrister Ijaz Hussain Batalvi 1992 who was Public Prosecutor in former Prime Minister Zulfiqar Ali Bhuttomurder trial's case [11] and Defense Counsel in former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif plane hyjacting trial's case after Pervez Musharraf revolt.[12] and remained with him till his last breath on 7 March 2004. He enrolled as Advocate Lahore High Court in 1992 & Advocate Supreme Court of Pakistan in 2005 after interviewed by then senior Judge Supreme Court of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He remained Member Executive Lahore High Court Bar Association. He also worked as Standing Counsel for Pakistan and Advisor to Honorary Consulate General of Kazakhstan Embassy, Lahore. He delivers Lectures in Superior College of Law, Superior University.[13]
Area of practice
He practices and render his services in constitutional law, administrative law, banking regulation laws, corporate law matters & criminal law cases. He was deputed & completed various Superior Court's Assignments dully appointed by Lahore High Court as official liquidator, court auctioneer & Local Commission to act on behalf of Lahore High Court to resolve the pending matters.
Attorney General Office
The President of Pakistan appointed him as Assistant Attorney General for Pakistan in June 2014 where he interacted and remained the member of Attorney General for Pakistan Salman Aslam Butt, Ashtar Ausaf Ali Attorney General for Pakistan, Naseer Ahmed Bhutta Additional Attorney General.[14] He appeared and conducted numbers of high-profile cases representing Federation of Pakistan i.e. Constitutional Writ petitions, ICA (Inter Court Appeal), ECL (Exist Control List), NADRA, Passport, Petroleum Levi, Anti Terrorism, Civil Aviation, Federal Ombudsman etc.
Victim of controversy
Ashtar Ausaf Ali Advocate General Punjab officially sent a summery in January 2012 for appointment of Akhtar Aly Kureshy as Additional Advocate General Punjab to the Chief Minister Punjab Shahbaz Sharif in April 2012 who did not approve that summery on the ground that he belong to the Chamber of Ijaz Huusain Batalvi who broken their secret of Sharif family's Exile Agreement with General Pervez Musharraf,.[15][16] according to the Sharif family the Exile Agreement was of Five year whereas ex. Prime Minister Shujaat Hussain and Federal Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmad gave interview on Geo News that Sharif family Exile Agreement was of Ten years as Mr. Batalvi himself told them.[17][15][18] Either Agreement of Exile was five year or ten year but this controversy victimized Mr. Kureshy, however, Mr.Batalvi family rejected both versions.[19][20][15][21]
Advocate General Punjab
In April 2003 Governor of the Punjab was pleased to appoint Akhtar Aly Kureshy as Assistant Advocate General Punjab[22] to represent the Government of Punjab in The Lahore High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan where he appeared in hundreds of thousand cases which were also reported in Law General P.L.D. SCMR, PLJ and CLC, and MLD. He remained associated with different Advocate General like, Ch. Aftab Ahmad, Khawaja Haris and Ch.Raza Farooq. He attended various Seminar and Conferences organized by Supreme Court of Pakistan.[1]
Assembly Advisor
He was appointed Legal Advisor to Provincial Assembly of the Punjab in January 1998 – 2000, biggest Assembly of the province and Pakistan.[6] Earlier there was no such post and he was the first to serve as Legal Advisor. He interacted with members of the Assembly, Ministers, Parliamentary Secretaries, Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the Assembly. He represented Assembly cases in the Lahore High Court and Supreme Court of Pakistan and gave opinion on legal issues. Kureshy got the chance to assist the Speaker Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on the point of Speaker's ruling as Speaker's ruling has the same precedent as judgements of High Courts and Supreme Court. In October 1999 General Pervez Musharraf imposed Marshal Law resultantly all Assemblies and Senate of Pakistan dissolved and his assignment of Legal Advisor was also finished.[23]
Fellowships
He is member and actively involve in social & professional orientation.[24][25] and contribute through various national and international NGOs and organizations like International Bar Association, London, member Commonwealth Lawyers Association, London, member LAWASIA Moot, Australia, Focus Pakistan, and Human Rights Commission of Pakistan established by Asma Jahangir and Hina Jilani.[26]

Name of Mr.Kureshy appeared as a subject matter of biographical record in Marquis Who's Who in the World 18th edition in 2001. Inclusion of name which is limited to those individuals who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their own fields of endeavor and who have, thereby, contributed significantly to the betterment of contemporary society.[27]
Adjunct Professor of Law
He inherited the legacy of Barrister Ijaz Hussain Batalvi who taught law his whole life, similarly Kureshy following his foot step to teach law by joining Punjab Law College (1998-2001), then Lahore Law College 2004-2007 and since 2007 he is associated as a Adjunct Professor of Law in Superior College of Law,[28] Superior University, where he teaches regularly the Constitution and Constitutional history of Pakistan.[13]

Kureshy being a lawyer has his rational and progressive point of views to contribute his part of humble efforts towards glories of his profession which meant for a good service. He is a regular columnist as he expressed his views through his articles as more than one hundred articles on current as well as legal burning issues, were published in the National News Papers like The News International, The Nation (Pakistani newspaper), Jang, The Law, Nawaiwaqt, PLJ and PLD, Pakistan Today etc.[29] He established his point of view as a reformer to make improvements in the present system which can deliver, particularly the Judicial system of Pakistan is suffering from heavy shortfall and abuse of justice.
