Ahmad Vafadar

Ahmad Vafadar Vafarad (Persian: احمد وفادار‎, 1927-2005) was a retired Iranian heavyweight freestyle wrestler who competed at the 1951 World Wrestling Championships and 1952 Summer Olympics.[1][2][3]

The story goes that after the 1979 revolution, the national television ( Seda va Seema ) went to Pahlavan's house to film and interview the Ahmad Vafadar. There was a picture on the wall where the Shah of Iran ( Mohammad Reza PAHLAVI ) tied the wrestling armband to the arm of the wrestler and the people of 'Seda va Seema' asked the wrestler to take the picture down before they would start the interview, but Ahmad Vafadar ( Pahlavan ) did not accept and they left the house in a rage and there was no interview!" Six or seven months later, the story came that all the medals and armbands had been stolen! It is believed that was supposed to have been a tit for tat by the ruthless government media who felt bruised by the wrestler refusal to take the picture of him with the Shah of Iran down as a pre-requisite to the interview taking place.
