Synopsis

The film is based on the real-life events of the Chittisinghpura massacre on 20 March 2000, in which 35 Sikhs were massacred by Islamic Terrorists in Kashmir. The film revolves around two Sikh brothers, Kuldeep [played by Rahul Dev] and Jaideep [played by Rocky Khanna] whose parents were among the victims of the massacre. They migrate to Mumbai. The film contrasts the various ideological and religious movement in India that have extremist views, from Islamic Fundamentalism to Hindu Nationalism, which are often pitted against each other as adversaries. The film revolves around those Muslims who tacitly support Pakistan despite their residing in India.

Controversy

The film got into trouble with film censors because of its controversial story and theme and fears of fostering Hindu/Sikh-Muslim violence. The film was repeatedly censored and scenes were cut out 40 times by the Central Board of Film Certification. Initially, the CBFC wanted the director to revise the whole film. Since this was not possible, the scenes were cut (thirty-three are sound cuts and seven are visual cuts).
