Abraham Thomas
Abraham George Thomas (born 26 July 1950) is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon, specializing in microsurgery from India.
Career
Dr Abraham Thomas, born In Tamarasserry, Calicut, Kerala had all his medical education at Christian Medical College Ludhiana. He trained in Surgery under Dr Eggleston and Plastic Surgery under Dr Feierabend and Dr Bindra. He trained in microvascular surgery by Marko Godina another famous microsurgeon from Yugoslavia. In 1994 in Christian Medical College Ludhiana, he successfully reattached the avulsed face (near-total) and scalp of a nine-year-old girl, Sandeep Kaur. He is presently working as vice chairman of Malabar Medical College and Research Center Calicut[1][2] This achievement has recently been recognised by American College of Surgeons by incorporating Thomas in their 100 years timeline for achievements in surgery.[3] Thomas attached the arteries, veins and nerves successfully and almost the entire face and scalp survived. The girl had near-complete recovery of the muscles of her face. Sandeep continued her studies after recovery and she is an accomplished, registered nurse at the hospital. He is a recipient of the Dr. B. C. Roy Award in Development of Specialities category for the year 2002.[4]

- Dean, Faculty of Medical Sciences, Punjab University in 1998.
- Member of the Institute Body, All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi, December 1999 – December 2004.
- Chairman, Boards of Undergraduate and Postgraduate Studies, Baba Farid University of Health Sciences 1999 – 2000.
- Principal of CMCH from October 1992 – March 2001.
- Director-Principal of Pondicherry Institute of Medical Sciences in Puducherry from January 2002 to March 2008.
- Director of CMC Ludhiana since April 2008 till March 2018. During this time CMC Ludhiana saw vast improvements, increasing the MBBS seats
to 75 per year, New PG courses in Microbiology, Community Medicine, Dermatology, ENT , Paed Surgery, Neurology, Nephrology and recognition of OB& Gynae.
- Now working in Plastic Surgery dept at Malabar Medical College since Jun 2018.
He is also Consultant surgeon at MEITRA hospital Calicut.
