History
It was in 1992 that the first air rifle commandos regiments appeared in the Algerian Air Force, notably following the release of the first promotion of air rifle commandos and under the direct impetus of the commander of the Algerian Air Force, Major General Benslimani.[1]
However, the creation of air rifle commandos units dates back to the 1970s with the project of a special air component that was presented to President Houari Boumediène.[1]
It was in 1990 that the training of the first air commando riflemen began at the National School of Air Technology (ENTA) in Blida, which also trains non-commissioned officers of the Algerian Air Force.[2]
However, the training of commandos riflemen was transferred to the level of the Air Rifle Training Centre (CIFA) in Mechria.[1]
Currently the Algerian Air Force has 6 regiments of air fusiliers commandos as well as battalions of air fusiliers for the protection of air bases.[2]
Organization
There are currently 6 air commandos rifle regiments distributed among the different military regions of Algeria[2]
There is also 1 regiment that is as special forces:
- 772nd Regiment of fusiliers commandos of the air of Aïn Oussera
The 782nd Air Commandos Rifle Regiment of Laghouat is considered the elitist Air Commandos Rifle Regiment (excluding the 772nd RFCA).
These regiments are the spearheads of the Algerian Air Force, they were heavily involved in the fight against terrorism during the black decade, particularly with operations in the mountains, and they are still heavily involved in the fight against terrorism today.[2]
The Algerian Air Force therefore has 6 regiments of air commando riflemen, including 1 special forces regiment (the 772° RFCA) and battalions of air riflemen who are present on Algerian army air bases.[2]
In addition the air commandos have specialized units such as dog units.

- The recognition or destruction of targets in the depths
- Combat search and rescue (as was the case in the 1990s when commandos combed mountainous areas for terrorist groups).
While the air rifle battalions are on a mission :
- The protection and security of personnel, equipment and air bases of the Algerian air force
- The protection and defence of sensitive points and installations of the Algerian Air Force
- Prevention at air bases
- Participation in preventing and combating terrorism
- Participation in anti-terrorist operations and operational detachments (as was the case during the dark decade with detachments in high-risk areas)

- Participation in assisting Algerian security forces in the event of natural disasters
Training
The future air riflemen spend their initial training at the Centre d'instruction des fusiliers de l'air (CIFA) in Mechria in southern Algeria where they will be trained in parachuting, weapons handling, shooting, close combat techniques, shooting from helicopters, combat...[1]
Following their training they will be certified as air riflemen and they will join an air rifle battalion where their main missions will be the surveillance, defence and protection of personnel and equipment of all air units and air bases.[3]
As for the commandos, they will have to undergo further selection, training and education within the air commando rifle regiments.
Thus, they receive commando training at that time like their army parachute counterparts.[2]
If the future commando succeeds in its selection phase, it will be trained for months in commando techniques specific to air commando riflemen.
