2021 New Mexico's 1st congressional district special election
On December 17, 2020, it was announced that Deb Haaland would resign from her seat in the United States House of Representatives if confirmed by the United States Senate to serve as United States Secretary of the Interior in the Biden administration.[1] Based on New Mexico law, Governor of New Mexico Michelle Lujan Grisham is responsible for calling a special election within 10 days of the seat's vacancy, which must take place within three months of that date.[2][3][4][5][6][7]
