1973 Luhuo earthquake
The Luhuo earthquake struck near the town of Zhaggo in the Garzê Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province, China on February 6, 1973 with a magnitude of 7.6 Mms . The earthquake achieved a rating of X (Extreme) on the Mercalli intensity scale and resulted in the deaths of an unknown number of Chinese in the affected region.[1] The Xianshuihe Fault is a 350 km long active sinistral strike-slip fault that runs through the eastern Tibetan Plateau. During the earthquake of 1973, the fault ruptured for a length of 90 km.[2]
